The Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA) is hosting the major temporary exhibition 'Of Color in Art (Coloramas)' until January 10, 2027. This comprehensive exhibition explores the physical, symbolic, and perceptual evolution of color over the last 75 years of artistic creation (1949-2025). Curated by Rosa Mª Castells , María Zozaya , and Aníbal Santaella , the exhibition brings together the Alicante museum's collections in collaboration with previous research undertaken by the Juan March Foundation.
The exhibition examines how color achieved its compositional autonomy by freeing itself from figurative dictates and formal drawing. Among the works on display are Josef Albers 's renowned studies on perception, Teresa Lanceta 's textiles and traces of textiles , Eusebio Sempere 's kinetic and optical art, and Juana Francés 's material power —all key figures in shaping the contemporary art scene in Spain and internationally. The exhibition also includes pieces from the Jenkins and Romero collections by Arturo Herrera , Cristina Lucas , and Jeffrey Gibson , enriching the contemporary understanding of industrial and digital color.
In addition to the selection of paintings and conceptual works, the exhibition features a cabinet of curiosities organized with the support of the Royal Tapestry Factory . This space explores the origins of synthetic and industrial pigments, dyes of plant and mineral origin, and the historical and socioeconomic dimensions linked to artistic production. This multidisciplinary contribution is key for collectors and art market professionals interested in the curating, conservation, and revaluation of artistic languages within Spain's cultural heritage.

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía , based in Madrid , is launching its program of artistic mediation and analytical tours, '¡Crash! Art to Break with Everything' . The activity, which will take place in the historic Sabatini Building starting in October 2026, invites visitors to explore the conceptual shifts and technical breakthroughs in the visual arts, from the early 20th-century avant-garde movements to the most radical expressions of contemporary art.
The itinerary analyzes key pieces held in the museum's collection, such as Andy Warhol 's Knives (1982) , to explore how artists have challenged academic conventions. From the liberation of brushstrokes in painting and the transition from figuration to abstraction, to sculpture using unconventional materials, the exhibition highlights the value of chance, irony, and creative freedom in the history of visual arts.
With this initiative, the Reina Sofía Museum reinforces the role of public institutions in Spain as spaces for critical education and the dissemination of contemporary art collecting. The proposal fosters an understanding of the groundbreaking artistic processes that have shaped the dynamics of the market and current aesthetic thought, connecting the museum's collection with the broader cultural ecosystem.

The Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum plans to present 'La Menesunda according to Marta Minujín' in its program , an exhibition that will occupy Floor 0 of the Nouvel Building in Madrid from November 18, 2026 to March 8, 2027. Curated by the museum's director, Manuel Segade , in collaboration with Beatriz Jordana and Cayetano Limorte , the exhibition recovers one of the most defining creations in the history of immersive installations and performance art of the 20th century.
Originally conceived in 1965 by Marta Minujín (Buenos Aires, 1943) in collaboration with artist Rubén Santantonín for the Visual Arts Center of the Torcuato Di Tella Institute in Buenos Aires, 'La Menesunda' redefined the relationship between the artwork and the public. By replacing passive contemplation with an immersive and participatory experience, the piece offered a sensory immersion where the viewer became the central subject of the artistic event. The term, taken from the slang of the Río de la Plata region to describe a mixture or chaos of elements, encapsulates a circuit composed of rooms with changing textures, neon lights, and opportunities for physical interaction.
The version on display in Madrid is the result of exhaustive research initiated in 2015 by the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires in close collaboration with the artist. Co-produced with Tate Liverpool , and following its run at the New Museum in New York and Copenhagen, the exhibition arrives for the first time at a Spanish public institution. The project is complemented by a documentary focused on the performances and happenings staged by Marta Minujín between 1963 and 1985, with particular attention to landmark actions such as 'Simultaneity in Simultaneity' and 'Paying the External Debt with Corncobs' with Andy Warhol . Awarded the Velázquez Prize for Visual Arts in 2016, Minujín's stature has solidified as a fundamental pillar in the collecting and research of Latin American art in Europe.

Contemporary artist Sonia Gomes (Caetanópolis, Minas Gerais, 1948) stands out as one of the most singular voices in fiber sculpture and three-dimensional assemblage. In the audiovisual profile " Meet the Artists" published by Art Basel , the Afro-Brazilian artist explores the existential weight, the artisanal gesture, and the recycling of materials that define her artistic body of work. Her practice takes on particular international significance with the opening of her solo exhibition "Cœur sauvage" at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris , on view from October 21, 2026, to February 14, 2027.
Sonia Gomes 's work is built upon the use of discarded fabrics, donated textiles, lace, threads, and found wooden and wire structures, which the artist twists, ties, and sews intuitively. Linked to her family roots and the transmission of ancestral knowledge from her grandmother—a midwife and traditional healer in Brazil—Gomes's work transcends the conventional notion of craftsmanship to create biomorphic and organic sculptural forms imbued with collective memory. As the artist herself points out, working with textiles functions as a language of repair, resistance, and identity affirmation in the face of hegemonic narratives in art.
Following her participation in landmark events such as the 56th Venice Biennale, curated by Okwui Enwezor, the recognition of Sonia Gomes 's work reflects a growing interest among institutional and private collectors in textile art and decolonial practices. The panoramic exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in France will encompass two decades of work in direct dialogue with the industrial architecture of the Parisian center. This milestone consolidates the value and technical rigor of contemporary Latin American sculpture within the high-value European art circuits.

The Center for Art and Nature (CDAN) in Huesca , a leading institution in Aragon for the analysis of the relationship between contemporary art and landscape, has scheduled a series of five specialized workshops to conclude the exhibition 'They Illustrate Botany ,' which will remain open to the public until November 1st . This international exhibition, developed by a research group at the Complutense University of Madrid and curated by Toya Legido and Lucía Moreno Diz , brings together more than 500 works by 60 female artists to highlight the female presence in scientific illustration and the visual arts from the 17th century to the present day.
The program of complementary activities will take place between September 26 and October 25, offering a practical approach to experimental photography, field drawing, and graphic collage. The program opens with the workshop 'Anthotype: Listening to Plants ,' led by photographer Vicky Méndiz , where participants will explore the early processes of 19th-century photography using photosensitive plant juices.
On Saturday, October 3, artist Rakel Gómez Vázquez will lead the session 'Situated Botanical Reading: Problems of the Earth, Problems of the Image ,' fostering a critical reflection on how artistic representations shape our relationship with the natural environment. Following this, on Sunday, October 11, artist Susana Vacas will conduct a collage workshop focused on her artistic-literary work 'Re-composition . '
The final stretch of the training program will feature Gema Rupérez on Sunday, October 18, with her archive and drawing workshop, "I Am Invasive Too ," conceived as a process-based extension of her installation "Invasive Species," which is part of the exhibition collection. The series will conclude on October 25 with the theoretical and practical session "Insects and Flowers Conquering the World ," led by biologist Lorena Escuer , which will connect the function of the ecosystem with the botanical collections displayed in the galleries of the Huesca museum.
With this initiative, the CDAN consolidates its commitment to cultural mediation and the revaluation of visual heritage, positioning Huesca and the Aragonese artistic ecosystem as key points in the contemporary debate on art, science and gender perspective.
